Untitled (Sex) was conceived as part of my research into the malleability of facial identity. For a while I was considering various methods of disguise, and started photographing myself upside down. The effect of the inversion of gravity proved to be a fascinating one: features are distorted and facial veins swell up to resemble a bodybuilder's pump. But in a world that's upside-down, the gravitational pressures on the digestive track are also inverted, allowing for some confusion around the functions of certain orifices and bodily fluids.
